Neuropathy is a degenerative nerve condition that is characterized by abnormal sensations, pain, or numbness usually beginning in the feet or hands and progressing upwards towards the trunk. Neuropathy affects over 100 million Americans every year with those that are diabetic suffering the most. Over 80% of neuropathy victims also suffer from some form of spinal injury or degeneration. Chemotherapy can also be a cause of neuropathy. The nerve degeneration was long thought to be irreversible, but, thanks to new research and technology breakthroughs in treatment and nutrition, relief can be found for a vast number of sufferers. Mainstream medical treatment consists of Neurontin (Gabapentin) or Lyrica to treat symptoms only.

Treatment aimed at correcting the neuropathy must address restoring microvascular blood flow back to the affected nerve cells in the legs and arms. Spinal damage or irritation must be addressed to alleviate “top down” nerve degeneration as well. Underlying gut/immune axis dysfunction is often ignored by mainstream medicine and is a hidden driver of many neuropathy cases. Obviously, blood sugar control and insulin sensitivity-based nutrition plans must also be implemented to ensure long lasting results. Finally, regenerative medicine that continuously bathes the nerves in growth factors can stimulate damaged nerve endings to decrease pain and improve normal sensation.
